Sarita is a very confident, outgoing person, so it’s no surprise we chose her to be our Nepali workshop manager. She makes sure that each piece of Danusha jewellery is made with care and attention and looks after our staff too.

Life hasn’t been easy for Sarita. Her confidence comes from her determination to overcome the challenges she’s experienced. She lives with her husband and their 2 sons in Bardibas village, close to Lalgadh Hospital in south eastern Nepal. Both Sarita and her husband have been affected by leprosy.

When she was first diagnosed  Sarita encountered huge rejection from her family and the people in her village. This was a very sad and difficult time for her. Following treatment at Lalgadh she was delighted when she was asked  to work in the training centre, providing support to people in a similar situation to her own.

Sarita is a founder member of Danusha and has a real drive and determination to see the jewellery project succeed.

Sarita says: “It’s very important to empower women. If they have a skill then everyone will love and respect them. They can move forward. They must face their problems and not give up. There must be empowerment!”

She’s a truly inspirational person.
